What does it mean to be MORE THAN A CONQUEROR that we so often hear people in churches quoting? Here is what the Truth of God’s Word says:
Romans 8:31-39 (MSG)
31-39 So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose? If God didn’t hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldn’t gladly and freely do for us? And who would dare tangle with God by messing with one of God’s chosen? Who would dare even to point a finger? The One who died for us—who was raised to life for us!—is in the presence of God at this very moment sticking up for us. Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ’s love for us? There is no way! Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing, not even the worst sins listed in Scripture:
They kill us in cold blood because they hate you.
We’re sitting ducks; they pick us off one by one.
None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us. I’m absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.
Warriors who are more than a conqueror have a completely different mindset and focus. We have a mindset on the Majesty of God and choose to focus on Him no matter the situation. We choose to think about who God is and choose to remember how God has revealed himself to us in the past. Look at what Paul was saying, “With God on our side like this, how can we lose?”
David and Goliath
Think of the story of David and Goliath in 1 Samuel 17. All of the Israelite’s were sitting in fear on the sidelines of the battle and were intimidated by the size of Goliath and his brazen challenge. They were choosing the wrong focus. David comes into the situation while delivering food and supplies to his brothers at the battlefield. David heard Goliath’s challenge and his attitude was “Who does he think he is, anyway, this uncircumcised Philistine, taunting the armies of God-Alive?” So David convinces Saul to let him fight Goliath and instead of fear ruling his thinking and focus David chooses to see the impending battle from a Majesty Mindset. He looks at it from the viewpoint of what God was about to do based on his experience of who God had been for him and what God had done in his life already. We read:
44 “Come on,” said the Philistine. “I’ll make roadkill of you for the buzzards. I’ll turn you into a tasty morsel for the field mice.”
45-47 David answered, “You come at me with sword and spear and battle-ax. I come at you in the name of God-of-the-Angel-Armies, the God of Israel’s troops, whom you curse and mock. This very day God is handing you over to me. I’m about to kill you, cut off your head, and serve up your body and the bodies of your Philistine buddies to the crows and coyotes. The whole earth will know that there’s an extraordinary God in Israel. And everyone gathered here will learn that God doesn’t save by means of sword or spear. The battle belongs to God—he’s handing you to us on a platter!”
A Conqueror Chooses The Quality of Their Thoughts
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (MSG)
3-6 The world is unprincipled. It’s dog-eat-dog out there! The world doesn’t fight fair. But we don’t live or fight our battles that way—never have and never will. The tools of our trade aren’t for marketing or manipulation, but they are for demolishing that entire massively corrupt culture. We use our powerful God-tools for smashing warped philosophies, tearing down barriers erected against the truth of God, fitting every loose thought and emotion and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ. Our tools are ready at hand for clearing the ground of every obstruction and building lives of obedience into maturity.
As Kingdom Warriors we live as more than a conqueror and make the conscious choice to not allow our thoughts and emotions to rule us. We take our thoughts captive and test them against the truth of the Word of God. God has created our minds and they are a powerful part of who God made us to be. When a thought enters our mind, we have the choice to entertain that thought or choose another one. If we choose to focus on the thought that has entered our mind then we feed it and if we return to it over and over then it becomes a resident thought in our brain. When we think a certain way then over time that becomes what we believe and we then live from that belief.
We choose to test the thought that has entered our mind (take it captive) against the truth of the Word of God, if it does not line up with the truth then we choose to reject that thought and instead focus and meditate on the truth of God. This is practicing the command in scripture to “take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ”.
This is not saying scripture over and over, it is meditating on the truth which is different. Meditating requires deep thinking and processing to occur. Then we need to put the truth into action so that it continues to take root. As we continue to allow Holy Spirit to remind us of the truth then over time it becomes our new way of thinking. Our new way of thinking then becomes what we believe in our hearts. This new way of living is truly what it means to be more than a conqueror, a healthy stronghold is built in our lives and the enemy can’t even penetrate it.
